The Aloha Medical Mission (AMM) will come back to Bohol to conduct a free Surgical-Dental Mission at the Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital on February 26 to March 2, 2012.

AMM is a private, non-profit charitable organization, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA and is committed to provide free access to health services. For the past 23 years, they have conducted 130 medical missions to 15 countries wherein more than 4,000 volunteers have treated 257,000 medically underserved individuals and have performed over 17,000 operations, all without charge.

They first served Boholanos last November 2009 that benefited 800 patients for dental and surgery. The group is composed of 36 specialists, nurses and prosthetists headed by Dr. Bradley Wong, a general surgeon.

This year, they will perform cases on adult and pediatric hernias; cholecystectomies/thyroglossal duct cyst/ thyroidectomise; gyne (uterine prolapsed, myomas, ovarian tumors, cleft lips/palate, burn contractures; circumcisions, bladder stone removal, abscesses, ano-rectal cases, breast cases, other large soft tissue tumor, dental cases and other minor surgeries.

The mission is in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bohol through Governor Edgar M. Chatto and Vice Governor Concepcion O. Lim, Municipality of Talibon headed by Mayor Restituto Auxtero, AFP NADESCOM through Brig. Gen. Charly Holganza and the 2nd SF Batallion.

Patients who will benefit from this mission are the towns under the catchment area of Talibon Health District to include; Talibon, Trinidad, San Miguel, Bien Unido, Ubay, Pres. CPG, Getafe, and Buenavista.

Aside from surgical and dental activities, the Aloha Medical Mission Team is giving out Free Hand Prosthesis to Boholanos who are forearm amputees. This life changing privilege is offered to all Boholanos in for them to normalize their daily lives by acquiring a hand prosthesis.

The mission is in line with the developmental thrust and strategies of the Provincial Government of Bohol that aims to alleviate the lives of the Boholano people. It prioritizes to promote health and safety which includes easy access to health services particularly to its less privileged constituents.

Though it considered health in its development agenda, there is still so much that needs to be done due to lack of the required resources. One of its implementation strategies is through partnership to private organizations and other government sectors such as international humanitarian groups having the same passion for the health and safety of the province’s constituents.

Health, like education, agriculture and tourism, is in the forefront of the administration agenda considering its significance in the administration’s never ending pursuit for good and effective governance.
